CARB-X Joins Australia’s AMR Network as a Partner Organisation

AAMRNet, MTPConnect’s AMR initiative, is delighted to announce that the global non-profit partnership CARB-X is officially joining the Network as a partner organisation.

CARB-X accelerates early-stage antibacterial research and development to protect lives from bacterial infections. Its global portfolio includes innovative therapeutics, preventatives, and rapid diagnostics that target the most serious, drug-resistant bacteria identified on global priority lists, syndromes with the greatest global morbidity and mortality, and performance characteristics needed for patients.

Every year, millions of people die from infections linked to bacteria that don’t respond to antibiotics.

More Australians are dying each year from AMR than on our roads.

Tackling antimicrobial resistance is a global health priority that requires a global response.

Collaboration, particularly with leading research and development organisations such as CARB-X, is essential to making a difference. We need all hands on deck to keep superbugs at bay.

AAMRNet has prioritised building connections across the world, and this move formalises an already strong and productive partnership with CARB-X built over several years, that will help to spotlight Australian and New Zealand AMR research efforts to the world.

Thanks to the entire CARB-X team, and in particular Dr Richard Alm who has been instrumental in establishing this partnership.

MTPConnect CEO and AAMRNet co chair Stuart Dignam explained that AAMRNet is pushing for urgent and overdue action to both improve access and support development and translation of new antimicrobial treatments.

“We are looking forward to working more closely together with CARB-X to strengthen the AMR research ecosystem and advance action on AMR, both in our region and around the world,” said Mr Dignam.

MTPConnect acknowledges the traditional custodians of Australia. We pay our respects to elders past, present and future, of all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander nations.
