An evening with John Van Der Wielen, FHRI Fund Advisory Council Chair

The WA Life Sciences Innovation Hub is delivering an exciting Spotlight event in February featuring John Van Der Wielen, Future Health Research and Innovation (FHRI) Fund Advisory Council Chair. The FHRI Fund is a major WA Government initiative, backed by sovereign wealth, to fund health and medical research, innovation, and commercialisation.

Join John and our Director Stakeholder Engagement Dr Tracey Wilkinson as they discuss the Fund’s new strategy, new programs (including the Spotlight program focused on rheumatic heart disease), reflections on the first four years of the Fund and what success looks like for the next four years.

About the speaker – Mr John Van Der Wielen, FHRI Fund Advisory Council Chair

John is the Chair of Gold Corporation, Orthocell (OCC) and the Wyllie Group, a Senior Adviser for Appian Capital Advisory and a Senior Adviser for Bridgewest.

John is a highly accomplished senior executive with more than 30 years’ experience across a broad range of industries. He was the Chief Executive Officer of HBF, a large national health insurer, and has over 30 years’ experience in insurance, wealth management, private banking and investments including executive positions within several financial services groups. John has been the Non-Executive Chair for Crown Perth, Non-Executive Director for Crown Resorts, Non-Executive Director for the Royal Flying Doctor Service WA and has held multiple other directorships during his career.

John previously served as the inaugural Chair of the FHRI Fund Advisory Council (2020-2024) and played a key role in establishing the fund’s governance and strategic direction.

He holds an MBA from the University of Western Australia and has studied at London Business School and Oxford University. He is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
