First Nations Forum Explores Sustainability Models for Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease

Earlier this week, MTPConnect was proud to co-host the forum, with TTRA program partners the Lowitja Institute and AusHSI, ‘Exploring sustainability models for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander research in diabetes and cardiovascular disease’ at the Koorie Heritage Trust in Naarm, Melbourne.

The forum brought together our TTRA-funded Round 3 First Nations project teams, community partners, government representatives, funders and sector leaders to share strengths, reflect on community-led research, and explore sustainable pathways to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and wellbeing.

Participants heard powerful insights from the Round 3 awardees, celebrated the achievements of community-driven projects, and engaged in thoughtful discussions about how we can build sustainable, culturally informed models of funding and implementation.

A warm thank you to our partners, the Lowitja Institute and AusHSI, and to all participants who contributed to such a meaningful day grounded in cultural authority, knowledge sharing and shared purpose.

We will share the key outcomes and actions identified shortly. For those funding or influencing policy in First Nations health research, we encourage you to stay connected and join us in progressing this important work.

Highlights of the forum
