The Art and Science of Capital Raising: IGP Client Seminar

MTPConnect recently partnered with D4 Bioventures to deliver The Art and Science of Capital Raising lunch seminar for Industry Growth Program (IGP) medical science clients in Sydney.

The event was supported by BioNSW and brought together life sciences founders to gain practical insights into engaging investors and navigating the fundraising process.

The seminar opened with a welcome from MTPConnect Chief Operating Officer Lisa Dubé, who outlined the organisation’s role as an Industry Partner Organisation to the Australian Government’s Industry Growth Program, delivered by the Department of Industry, Science and Resources.

Lisa highlighted MTPConnect’s tailored support for life sciences companies in the IGP, including one-on-one Intermediary Service meetings, strategic connections, workshops and events, reports, monthly communications and ongoing advisory support delivered in conjunction with IGP Program Advisors.

David Barda and Andrew Silberberg from D4 Bioventures shared expert perspectives on how to effectively communicate with investors.

Key takeaways included the importance of tailoring discussions to different investor types, being clear and responsive in answering questions, and ensuring thorough preparation for investor questions across all stages of a project.

Speakers also emphasised that investors often consider the “triple bottom line” rather than impact and cautioned founders to treat term sheets as important strategic documents rather than administrative tasks, as they shape future negotiations and can be difficult to change once agreed.

Cameron Ferris, Co-founder and COO of Inventia Life Science

The session concluded with a fascinating fireside chat between Cameron Ferris, Co-founder and COO of Inventia Life Science and  successful fundraiser, and D4 Bioventures’ Steven Suchting, who guided the discussion. Cameron shared reflections on building investor relationships well before capital is required, likening the process to developing a long-term partnership. He also spoke candidly about the need for resilience and optimism during challenging periods, noting when investors consider early-stage investment, it is often as much about backing the team as it is the technology.

At MTPConnect, we are proud to support IGP life sciences clients through practical, focused events that strengthen commercial capability and help translate innovation into impact.

Many thanks to Gadens for hosting our event at their scenic Sydney offices.
