This week we are in sunny San Diego hosting a delegation of innovative companies who we support through our inaugural Targeted Translation Research Accelerator initiative that are developing new solutions for heart disease and diabetes.
The group is in California getting ready to attend the ‘Biocom Global Partnering & Investor Conference‘ and we kicked off the visit with a day of immersion into the US life sciences sector led by our CEO Stuart Dignam and TTRA Senior Director Lauren Eve Kelly.
First stop was a breakfast briefing from Joe Panetta with Biocom California, the leading advocacy and trade association for the California life science industry, representing over 1,800 member companies in the biotech, pharmaceutical, medical device, and diagnostics sectors.
Then it was on to find out all about Lilly Gateway Labs, innovation hubs providing expertise and capabilities to support emerging biotechs and entrepreneurs. The group spent time meeting the team over lunch and gaining insights into diabetes and cardio-renal strategic areas of interest.
🦘 To wrap up the day, we met with Sheena McGowan, PhD, Australian founder and CEO of US biotech startup Scudo Biosciences, a microbiologist and structural biologist with over 25 years of experience spanning academia, translational research, and industry. Over coffee, Sheena shared her unique insights on relocating to San Diego ecosystem and lessons learned around US fundraising, networking, hiring and market navigation!
