MTPConnect’s WA Grant Excellence Service, “WAGES”, is supporting WA researchers and innovators to improve the competitiveness of applications to national grant funding programs like the Medical Research Future Fund.
The program, a three-year pilot designed by MTPConnect, is focusing on improving quality of grant applications through early intervention and support and enhancing collaborative partnerships, so projects are well prepared for upcoming grant opportunities.
The WAGES program will help upskill WA-based clinician researchers, EMCRs (Early-to-mid career researchers), innovators and start-ups to improve their success in securing sovereign funding for medical research and innovation in the state.
The program is led by Dr Tracey Wilkinson, MTPConnect’s Director Stakeholder Engagement WA and WA Life Sciences Innovation Hub and delivered in partnership with WA-based Synergy Health Solutions.
The WAGES program is supported by the Western Australian Future Health Research and Innovation Fund.
Register for WA Grant Development Workshops in 2026
Expressions of interest are now open for the inaugural WAGES workshop for WA-based early-to-mid-career researchers (EMCRs), particularly those applying for MRFF EMCR Scheme. The workshops are designed for teams to come together and develop and enhance their research ideas into a strategic research plan for a grant application. At the conclusion, you will have the basis for your strategic research plan and access to follow-on support including independent peer review of your full grant application.
The first workshop on 26 February 2026 at The Kids Research Institute Seminar Room, Perth Children’s Hospital has been fully subscribed. A second workshop on 26 March 2026, has also been fully subscribed.
We are also inviting Expressions of Interest (EOIs) from experienced researchers to join the WA Grant Excellence Service (WAGES) as an expert reviewer – EOIs close 1 June 2026, and EOIs will be reviewed weekly and approved reviewers will be notified as soon as possible. Find out more…
